The Consensus Crystal Ball

The Crystal Ball has recruited some help, not happy with going only 3-2 in last week's picks. This week the Ball returns with a consensus edition of the look ahead at the week's biggest games.

Minnesota +7.5 @ Michigan
AW—No more Michigan losses at home. The Wolverines keep rolling with Henne and Hart and stay in Big 10 race, 30 – 17. Pick: Michigan

TR—I think this game will be a shootout. In games like that, I always take the points. Michigan 35, Minnesota 31. Pick: Minnesota

PB—Michigan’s back. The Gophers get Hennebriated 35-17. Pick: Michigan

*Consensus: Michigan -7.5

Georgia +3 @ Tennessee
AW—I’ll go with a different shade of orange even with an injured QB. Tennessee survives a tight one at home, 24-20. Pick: Tennessee

TR – I’m not impressed by Tennessee. They lost to Florida and should have lost to LSU. Give me the Dawgs straight up. Georgia 21, Tennessee 17. Pick: Georgia

PB—This looks like a slugfest. Give me the points, I guess. Pick: Georgia

*Consensus: Georgia +3

Texas
Tech -4 @ Nebraska
AW—Don’t real West Coast offenses score points? Nebraska only scored 13 in regulation last week. That won’t be enough. I’ll take Leach and his gimmicks, 42-20. Pick: Texas Tech

TR—Neither team impressed last week. Iowa State had Nebraska beat but fumbled late to allow overtime. Tech failed to blow out Kansas, but four points isn’t too much to cover. Tech 35, Nebraska 21. Pick: Texas Tech

PB—You know the Big 12 is down when this is a premier matchup. Yikes. I don’t care for either team much. Nebraska wins at home with good defense, 24-20. Pick: Nebraska

*Consensus: Texas Tech -4

Ohio State -3 @ Penn St
AW—The Joe Pa bandwagon is starting to fill up. I prefer walking. Stick with the Buckeyes and the best linebackers in the country in a tight one, 14 – 10. Pick: Ohio State

TR—Penn State’s in trouble on this one. I like Ohio State big, 31-10. Pick: Ohio State

PB—The Lions won’t be able to score enough to win this. OSU offense is suspect, though. They win a close one, 20-13 Pick: Ohio State

*Consensus: Ohio State -3

California -2 @ UCLA
AW—UCLA survived a Tyrone Willingham scare last week. Not this time, the Bruins come ready to play and beat Cal 27-24. Pick: UCLA

TR – This one will probably be another Pac-10 flag football game. If one of these teams has to remain undefeated, I’ll go with recent history and Tedford’s Bears. Cal 41-37. Pick: Cal

PB—Cal has beaten nobody. Tedford’s a better coach. This could be a tie, if they allowed it. I guess I’ll go with the better coach. Cal wins, 30-27. Pick: Cal

*Consensus: Cal -2
